Hitachi Data Systems Named a Challenger in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Integrated Systems

November 29, 2016

Evaluation Based on Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute

SANTA CLARA, CA — November 29, 2016 – Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE:6501), today announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc., in the Challengers quadrant of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Integrated Systems1.

Gartner analysts evaluated 19 integrated systems vendors based on the criteria of completeness of vision and ability to execute. "Gartner's view of the integrated system market is focused on transformational technologies or approaches delivering on the future needs of end users. It is not focused purely on the market as it is today. Integrated systems are defined by Gartner as a combination of server, storage and network infrastructure, sold with management software that facilitates the provisioning and management of the combined unit."

According to Gartner, "By 2019, approximately 30% of the global storage array capacity installed in enterprise data centers will be deployed on software-defined storage (SDS) or hyperconverged integrated system (HCIS) architectures based on x86 hardware systems, up from less than 5% today."

"Hitachi Data Systems believes that converged and hyperconverged systems help customers modernize their infrastructures as they prepare for digital transformation," said Bob Madaio, Vice President, Infrastructure Solutions Marketing, Hitachi Data Systems. "To that end, HDS has expanded its use cases to accommodate emerging workloads, including Internet of Things (IoT), DevOps and data analytics. The open architecture and integration capabilities of the Hitachi converged infrastructure allows us to develop better solutions and work more effectively with our application partners, including Microsoft, VMware, SAP and Oracle."

Hitachi Data Systems' integrated system portfolio includes the family of systems, the recently announced hyperconverged UCP HC and Hitachi Hyper Scale-Out Platform. Since 2015, the company has successfully broadened and diversified its UCP offering to include entry-level systems as well as all-flash integrated systems.
