Germany's Top Five Cooperative Bank Deploys Pentaho BI Suite Enterprise Edition to Reduce Business Intelligence Costs and Upgrade Capabilities
January 18, 2011, Stockholm, Sweden — Pentaho Corporation the open source business intelligence and data integration leader, today announced that Mainzer Volksbank eG, a top five cooperative bank in Germany, is deploying Pentaho BI Suite Enterprise Edition to integrate heterogeneous data sources and deliver consistent metrics via interactive dashboards and standard reports to their employees.
With over 260,000 customers throughout Germany, Mainzer Volksbank eG (MVB) is the largest regional cooperative bank union in Rheinland-Pfalz. Faced with rising daily data volumes, a Cobol-based reporting system and a lot of Microsoft Excel analysis, MVB sought a comprehensive business intelligence solution that could replace its hand-coded data integration scripts and reduce the amount of time it takes to create reports and distribute information throughout the organisation.
In the initial phase of deployment MVB used Pentaho Data Integrationto build and populate a data warehouse that incorporates data from various operational and financial systems including call center metrics and marketing analytics as well as data from an external services company.
On a normal booking day over 250.000 new records are transferred into the data warehouse using automated Pentaho Data Integration transformations. From there, business users in accounting, loan security, risk management and other departments have self-service access to the most up-to-date information through reports, interactive analysis views and dashboards powered by Pentaho BI Suite Enterprise Edition.
"By switching to Pentaho we were able to dramatically reduce the amount of manual work needed to deliver meaningful information to our employees," said Bernhard Hübner, Project Leader at MVB. "Together with Pentaho's professional services and certified partner Proratio we deployed and started generating results very quickly."
The application runs on IBM xSeries Blade servers, and the DB2-based data warehouse on IBM Power Blade servers. Pentaho was selected for its comprehensive suite of business intelligence capabilities and the superior performance and scalability of Pentaho Data Integration. After deploying Pentaho, MVB noticed immediate cost savings attributed to more efficient reporting and shorter batch processing time for data integration.
"Our European operations grow based on the success of our customers and the results achieved by Mainzer Bank, a leading institution in its market, make us particularly proud." said Vinay Joosery, VP EMEA at Pentaho. "This clearly demonstrates the power of the Pentaho platform as an end-to-end solution from data integration to visualisation.
